Brooks’s Story

Site created on April 11, 2022

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Brooks was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in early April.  We learned that it is in stage two and that it is a grade 3, which means it is fast growing.
The good news is that the doctors are confident they can treat it successfully, the hard news is that it is going to take about a year to do so.
She will be starting chemo the last week of April and that will go through the Summer.  This will be followed by a rest period then a surgery followed by another rest period. Around the middle of October, she will start Radiation for 6 weeks.  Another surgery will follow, prayerfully in the Spring. We are so thankful for all of our family and friends that have offered to help us through this year-long journey.

The specifics: Brooks has a stage 2, grade 3, IDC. Her2 (-), KI67 (78%), It is in one lymph node for sure and possibly another. We are waiting for genetic testing to come in that may inform a few treatment decisions. The tumor is fast growing and they think developed over the past few months.

Newest Update

Journal entry by britton sharp

Hi Yall,

I just wanted to share an update and some requests.

Brooks next surgery is Monday and things have been pretty eventful. On Sunday, our oldest started running a fever, and fast forward to today when all three kids have the flu. I had my flu shot and am feeling okay. Brooks is quaranting during the day at my mom’s sneaking back in after the kids are in bed and staying in our room while I am in the guest room in my new role as Dr. Dad.

So our big request is that Brooks’ doesn’t get this! I have lysoled this house so many times and open the windows to air it out several times a day. We know this is all in God’s hands and pray that if it be His will that surgery can continue and we can get this behind us.

Our other request is that we applied for financial aid to the hospital again and are still waiting for things to be processed. This has been a huge blessing thus far in this journey and we pray that things go through. Our current one ended Feb 1st and they denied our application due to missing documents that we then supplied and we are waiting to hear back.

A big praise is that from the generosity of some dear friends we are now down to $7000 in our go fund me to help pay for surgery and treatments. This has been such an incredible blessing and we are overwhelmed by your generosity.  We do have a few dates left on our mealtrain for this round. I will post that as well for those that are interested.

Blessings to yall! We are taking it a step at a time.

Grace + Peace,

Britton
