Journal entry by Brooke Thorson —
Hi all,
So I just wanted to give people an update on how things are going, as I haven't posted in a very long time.
I under went radiation treatment for 6 weeks, 5days a week. For a total of 30 treatments. I was very very lucky and only got a slight tan on my skin. No peeling or any other side effects I read about.
The treatment itself was me laying on a table holding my breath within a certain tolerance over and over, as the machine move around me. Irradiating me in such a way as to miss my heart and most of my lungs.
A week ago I had my first mammogram since treatment. The result: no visible signs of cancer could be detected. However, they did note that small masses would not have be detectable. So that is good news. I will have an MRI in 6 months time. And likely will alternate methods every 6 months.
So for now I am assuming I am cancer free, although until I hit the 5 year mark It will be in the back of my mind. After 5 years the rate of it coming back are much lower.
I will leave this blog up, but won’t be posting any further unless my diagnosis changes.
Thank you all
Brooke
