Brooke’s Story

Site created on July 25, 2019

Brooklyn Rose Teer was born June 14, 2019.  Brooke is the daughter of Ryan and Sarah Teer and baby sister to Cora all of Milan. At 24 weeks gestation, Brooke was diagnosed with Spina Bifida.  Brooke was delivered via caesarian section at University of Cincinnati Hospital in Cincinnati.  During delivery, the sac that had formed on Brooke's back (Spina Bifida) bursted and doctors made a 2nd diagnoses of a estridor (obstruction of the airway).  She was immediately intubated and shortly after transferred to Children's Hospital in Cincinnati where she went into her first surgery at just 6 hours old.  The surgery lasted 6 long hours as doctors reconstructed her spine and closed up the opening on her back.  The next few days Brooke spent recovering from surgery and was monitored very closely.  During that time she was also diagnosed with vocal cord paralysis.  At 15 days old, Brooke was taken in for her 2nd surgery.  Doctors placed a shunt to drain the excessive fluid that was being retained on her brain and to help preserve what vocal cords fuctions she did have.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Kara McAdams

Brooke's surgery went well yesterday.  She will be sedated and on a ventilator for 10-14 days.  It is just a waiting game to allow her some time to recover from surgery.  Results from her urine test came back yesterday and she does have another UTI so antibiotics were started after surgery.
