Newest Update

Journal entry by Brittany Palmatier

On November 30, 2018 our lives changed faster than we could have imagined. We went into surgery with the knowledge that it could be a simple removal of an ovarian mass via robotic surgery or a major surgery removing all reproductive organs and whatever else may be malignant. It turned out to be a total hysterectomy, removal of omentum and a partial colectomy. There really wasn’t time to mourn the loss of fertility, we had to do what we had to do to save my life. The surgery was successful but was somewhat hard to recover from in the beginning. I spent 6 days in the hospital, but healing soon began after and I started focusing on my upcoming chemotherapy.
December 19 came and chemo day arrived. I went in not knowing what to expect, just knowing that to beat the beast I needed to do it. For 6 hours I was administered two chemo drugs slowly and watched closely by the wonderful chemo nurses. All went smoothly and I felt good going home. The next day I wasn’t so lucky. A large part of the pre-meds is a mixture of steroids and Benadryl all precautionary and helpful with the process, but the steroids effected me strongly and I spent the next day dealing with a hot and red face, pressure and pain- but I made it through! The next few days it was more about dealing with body pain from head to toe, bone pain, etc. A week after I felt like I was “human” again, I felt like I did before all of this and that gives me hope. Next on the checklist is my port procedure which will be helpful when accessing for chemo and blood draws. Update will follow! Thank you all for the continued prayers and support!
