Journal entry by Brian Jack

One last post … good news! I was discharged from the skilled nursing facility and returned to my Carmel home on Thursday, May 27th. I haven’t fully recovered, though, so I will continue to work on my health and stamina. Yet, I am well enough to care for myself and drive to where I need to go.

Frankly, my ride over the past five months seems so surreal. I can’t believe how poor my health had become and requiring a lung transplant, nor could I have anticipated the progress of my recovery and keeping the lungs I was born with. Looking back, I can see God’s healing hand at work throughout my journey; I would not be here today without it. Prayers were said on my behalf by so many, and I am forever thankful for those prayers and kind words from everyone. Also, I am thankful for the loving support of my family who stayed by my side. Although my journey is not over, I am truly blessed and will continue to look to my Heavenly Father for strength and healing.

Compared to last week, I can breathe easier without an oxygen feed, walk further without a crutch, and sit longer without discomfort. I returned to work Tuesday, and I will be filling in half-days for the next couple of weeks – doctor’s orders. I look forward to resuming physical therapy, having my G-tube removed, and getting vaccinated. This summer, I hope to spend more time with family, explore nearby parks, and take in more of the local culture.

As mentioned, this is intended to be the final post. Of course, my path hasn’t come to an end, and I endeavor to make further strides in my recovery. If you would like to keep in touch and hear updates, please reach out to me through Facebook or e-mail – briantjack@att.net.
