Journal entry by James Smith

Brian had his follow-up trip to the Gillette Children's Specialty Center in St. Paul today, and it went extremely well!

He had the casts taken off first.  They seemed heavy, but the technician assured us they were only a little over a pound each.

Then he went to get his X-rays, and everything there looks good.  The left ankle is healing more slowly than the other bones that were adjusted, but the doctor said that was normal.

Next Brian had his AFO's (Ankle-Foot Orthotics) fitted. They measured for them when he had his surgery back in April, so they were ready to go today.  These are basically plastic braces that help support and stabilize his ankles.  So they worked out well.

Finally, he had a physical therapy session with one of the therapists to see where he was on things and get some suggestions for PT when he gets back to OKC.

The people at Gillette continue to amaze us with their competence and caring for their patients.

The surgeon was very pleased with how things are healing and with Brian's progress in getting his strength and flexibility back.  He has been walking with a walker now for about 3 weeks, and he walked about 300 feet yesterday.

So he is very excited to get back home, take a shower, and sleep in his own bed!

Thank you again for all of your prayers, I know that they have been effective!  God is so good - blessings to you all!
