From Sarah on March 23, 2021:
"It is with a heavy but faithful heart that I am writing this email to you.  Only a week ago Brendan shared with many of you the exciting news of a new opportunity with an amazing ministry.  And today he is in the ICU after awakening early Monday morning with severe neurological symptoms. We rushed him to the ER thinking it was a stroke, but imaging found multiple tumors in different areas of his brain, and abnormalities in his kidneys.  I will have a meeting with the neurosurgeon today to discuss a plan of action.

We are praying in faith for a complete and miraculous healing and would ask you to stand with us in this battle! There are logistical things that I have to work out, the girls are confused and scared, and Brendan is alone due to COVID restrictions. I am grateful to each and everyone of you for all your support with our ministry and lives in the past years. Your friendship and love are invaluable. Please pray and fast today for Brendan's healing."

About Siloé Ministries:  "More than a health clinic, the Wellness Center provides our ministry with a permanent presence in the community we have served since 2008, and brings the Siloé vision for 'whole person' care to a new level. The hard-working families of La Misión and the greater Baja Norte region now have a destination for excellent and affordable medical and dental care–and a beautiful setting to learn, grow, and experience the life-changing love of Christ."

Our dear friends at Strongtower Ministries are spearheading fundraising efforts.  If you'd like to help, 100% of your tax-deductible donation will support their family. Brendan and Sarah are facing huge unexpected costs:  a large deductible, housing in San Diego, meals, transportation ,etc.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Sarah Mayer

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  It goes without saying that this year has been incredibly difficult for our family, with challenges we never thought we’d face. And yet we have so many things to be thankful for and have seen God’s hand so many times in this journey, that we are filled with gratitude.  We are also thankful for all of you… our dear friends and family who have stood by us these past months and supported us in so many ways.

It’s hard to believe that a month has already passed since Brendan’s last, unexpected second surgery in Arizona. He continues to get stronger every day and make huge strides at his rehab program. Last week he did a “turkey trot”; it wasn’t a half-marathon or even a 5k (like he’s done in the past!) but a beautiful 1.5 mile hike overlooking the ocean. It’s the longest he’s walked in many months, and we were thrilled at how far he’s come.

We continue to settle into our new home, loving the area, and the much shorter commute to Brendan’s rehab. The girls have made some neighborhood friends and having the dogs with us now is a happy distraction for them. We were thrilled to have Brendan's youngest sister Chrissie visit from England earlier this month. It had been over 3 years since we last saw her! We had a great time reminiscing and making new memories!

We wanted to alert you all that Strong Tower Ministries continues to help process donations for our family’s support. I don’t know what we’d do without the generous gifts from so many that have covered medical expenses, rent, utilities, and food since our unexpected transition here this past spring. It’s humbling to be in the position of relying on others for our financial needs, but we look forward, expectantly and with great faith, that we will soon be on the other side, giving again instead of receiving. If I haven't thanked you personally yet, please know that each card, each donation, each prayer and encouraging comment are so appreciated!

Strong Tower has recently changed their platform for receiving donations. Please go to the following link where you can donate via credit card or Paypal.  As before, all donations are tax-deductible.
