Journal entry by Hannah Kincaid —
Day 20:
Mom started her morning on the oncology floor but is staying the night in ICU. She has been battling a secondary infection. The medication she has been taking in order to combat the infection and Leukemia has caused her body to retain water. The amount of water she is retaining is too much for her body to process. In addition to the medication that she is taking for the infection she is also taking a medication that is assisting the body with ridding the water. Mom is currently wearing an oxygen mask to breathe. Doctors made the executive decision that she needed to be moved from the oncology floor to ICU until she can breathe on her own. While she is in ICU they will be monitoring her heart rate, oxygen level, blood pressure and breathing. Although it was a rough day, Mom's white blood cell, hemoglobin, and platelets have been steadily improving.
We are still waiting for the final results of her bone marrow biopsy that was performed last Thursday.
