My Dad is sure enjoying being at home! He has three wonderful home nurses...Susie, Parker, and Jace that are all helping him around the house with various things. On Thursday, he saw his surgeon for a follow up appointment. Dad was shocked to find out that the surgeon was born and raised in Dearborn, where our family is from and Dad worked for 25+ years for Dearborn Police. The surgeon told my Dad that back in June he was called in to do an emergency and risky surgery on a COVIID patient and quite frankly, did not think the patient would pull through and survive. God had bigger plans and my Dad was that patient and was able to be at that appointment and joke around with his surgeon. Medically, things are looking good for my Dad and they chatted about when he can have his reversal surgery to get rid of the ileostomy bag as well.

Happy Friday to you all!

With a thankful and grateful heart,

Mandie

My Dad is scheduled to come home from the rehab facility on August 11 next week! He will continue to heal and get better at home. It’s hard to believe he will be able to finally be home after being in the hospital and rehab facility for over two months, but what a blessing and huge answer to prayer. He appreciates the texts and calls and would love more quick phone calls to brighten his days. 313-806-5873

Speech pathologist is fantastic. She said based on the changes she's seen, we can take mom practice driving in a parking lot a little at a time and daytime with her phone in her pocket, Terry and I  can go home for short times, calling her and she stays in house - no leaving at all. This is good news toward mom's independence! No UTI, mild yeast infection. Waiting on x-ray results for possible thoracic (?sp) vertebrate fracture. Soon she'll be able to eat normal food.

My Dad continues to do really well at the rehab facility! He is pushing himself and working hard six days a week with OT and PT on things like standing, stairs, self care, and more. Dad's surgery incision is getting smaller and healing nicely and he is learning how to manage his life with his ileostomy bag. This can be removed surgically and reversed down the road though, which is great. The biggest change for Dad was that he finally retired his flip cell phone and is navigating the tech world with an iPhone! Watch out!

When I asked him what he wanted me to post for all of his Caring Bridge "fans", he said he would love some phone calls to help brighten his days. If you know my Dad and are free, please reach out to him at 313-806-5873. Overall, my Dad is doing pretty well, but still has ups and downs mentally and physically. This is expected and each day brings new hope. Thank you for continued prayers on his journey to full recovery. He is quite the miracle man!

Mom, Terry and I are all negative, mom twice. Will post more pictures later. The cards, calls, texts and drive-bys were wonderful! Thank you prayer warriors.
