Brad ’s Story

Site created on July 21, 2023

We have been so overwhelmed with the love and concern for my dad, so we decided to start this site to give updates. There are so many messages, and we just aren’t able to keep up with them all! So we’ll try to keep this updated for anyone who would like to follow the journey….

On Wednesday, July 19th, Brad was working in his yard with two high school kids he hired to help him. He was on a ladder trimming trees with a chainsaw. The branch swung the wrong way and knocked the ladder out from under him. He fell about 20 feet landing on his upper back. Luckily the two high school kids were with him and immediately called for help. He was taken to Bergan Mercy and is now in the Trauma ICU.

He has a total of 8 spinal fractures and 2 sternum fractures in addition to some neck ligament damage. It will be a long road to recovery. We are so blessed to have so many that love and care for Brad and our family, so we’ll try to keep you updated as best we can.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Suzan Rohrig

We are almost a couple months since his diaphragm plication surgery, so I thought I would give an update.  After a very rough 6 weeks post-op, Brad has finally turned the corner and is feeling better.  The surgery definitely improved his breathing, but with it came with lots of pain and exhaustion.   But the last couple of weeks he has been up and about  more and even working in the yard.  He still has fluid around his lung which is being monitored, but the pain has subsided and he is started to be the "Smart Aleck Brad" that we all love and adore.  The doctors keep reminding him it will take time to get over a major surgery and to take it slow. Those are words Brad does not understand, but we are making progress!  Thank God.
Thank you all for your prayers and encouraging comments through all of this.  Hopeful by the one year anniversary of the accident (July 19th), he will be back to full speed!
