Bob’s Story

Site created on July 9, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place on Bob's Lymphoma journey. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Below is the story of how we got to the place we are at today with updates added as they occur.

Bob's journey started on Saturday, June 29th. Bob was behaving very strangely and was taken by ambulance to LaGrange Hospital. Bob was very confused about where he was (often he didn't think he was even in a hospital).  He didn't recall why he was at the hospital or how he got there. Bob was mixing his past memories with current day facts, conversations and television shows he watched in the hospital. Bob denied any pain and was in relatively good spirits which was comforting to his family. Bob did have pretty good long term memory and knew his family and friends that stopped in to check on him.   The doctor's at LaGrange did various tests to try and figure out why he had this altered mental status and ultimately, they found a mass in his brain. The mass is actually located in a few spots which is part of the reason Bob is so confused.

Bob has a history of melanoma which was treated at Loyola Hospital. He has been free of that cancer since 2003. Bob has complete trust in the oncology team he worked with at that time so the decision was made by his family to transfer him to Loyola to continue to investigate this new mass in his brain.  Bob actually talked about his  past oncology doctor  while he was at LaGrange. His confusion lead him at times to think other family members were ill with a brain mass. Every time it came up, Bob would reassure his family that everything would be okay,  to trust the medical team, each other and God.

At this time we ask that you keep Bob and his family in your thoughts and prayers. We are still figuring out what is needed and what will come next.
