Journal entry by Aimee Read

A special entry by Alice's sister Laurie...

On October 6th Light the Night (Greater Bucks/Mont) is taking place at Doylestown Park. Light the Night is a Fundraising Event for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS). This year, Bob was supposed to be walking with us.

Sometime in June I reached out to my sister Alice and told her about Light the Night.  She and Bob agreed to do it and we had plans to walk together and raise awareness & funds for LLS.

Since I was diagnosed with CML in late 2016, I had formed a team last year and my little group raised some $$ and we walked.  The approximately one mile walk begins at dusk after a very special 'opening ceremony'.  Each person who walks receives a colored 'lantern'.

White is for Survivors, Red is for Supporters, and the Gold Lantern is for those who walk in Memory of a loved one.

I cried last year when I looked out at all of those red lights - which represented all the people in my life and the lives of others who were standing by and loving and supporting us through our individual battles.  I know I will cry again this year with thanksgiving for that love & support and also with sadness for the loss of our brother Bob.

I have no words - only profound sadness that Bob left us all too soon.  We continue to mourn his loss yet we are comforted by the truth that we are not without hope because of Christ.

So this year we will Walk.  We will Rejoice.  And we will Remember.

I wanted to leave you with the words from this song by Steven Curtis Chapman

With Hope

This is not at all how
We thought it was supposed to be
We had so many plans for you
We had so many dreams
And now you've gone away
And left us with the memories of your smile
And nothing we can say
And nothing we can do
Can take away the pain
The pain of losing you, but...
We can cry with hope
We can say goodbye with hope
'Cause we know our goodbye is not the end, oh no
And we can grieve with hope
'Cause we believe with hope
(There's a place by God's grace)
There's a place where we'll see your face again
We'll see your face again
And never have I known
Anything so hard to understand
And never have I questioned more
The wisdom of God's plan
But through the cloud of tears
I see the Father's smile and say well done
And I imagine you
Where you wanted most to be
Seeing all your dreams come true
'Cause now you're home
And now you're free, and ...
We have this hope as an anchor
'Cause we believe that everything
God promised us is true, so...
We wait with hope
And we ache with hope
We hold on with hope
We let go with hope

Thank you,

Laurie
