Robert’s Story

Site created on August 18, 2020

Welcome to Bob's CaringBridge website. We are using this as a space to keep family and friends updated in one place.

Bob was initially diagnosed with Stage 2b Pancreatic Cancer in December 2015. At the time of diagnosis we had no idea what to expect. The horror stories were all around us. According to the American Cancer Society, for all stages of pancreatic cancer combined, the one-year relative survival rate is 20%, and the five-year rate is 9%. By the grace of God, Bob has been part of the lucky 20%. As we approach the 5th anniversary of his diagnosis, however, we've discovered that the cancer has returned and is very aggressive. Please continue to pray for Bob and the family as we fight this battle together.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Carol Gray

Hello all it's Sarah again. I just wanted to provide an update on how Dad is doing.

Dad is now one week past radiation. The start of the week was pretty rough. He wasn't sleeping well and he was in a great deal of pain. As the week continued he has gradually seen some relief. He does have a sore, scratchy throat which is a side effect of the radiation we were told to expect. He hasn't had the greatest of appetites as a result of this and the extreme fatigue he has had the last several days. That appears to be improving today though (Fingers Crossed).
We also received word on whether or not the insurance will cover his chemo. The insurance has approved to cover the treatment through December. The treatment itself will last 24 weeks, which means we will need to get approval granted once again at the beginning of 2021 as long as all goes well and Dad responds well to treatment. For now we are feeling grateful and optimistic.
Thank you for all of the continued love, prayers and support and I will post again next week.
