Journal entry by Megan Mechler —
Just as a family we wanted to say thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. If we somehow missed getting you a thank you from the tournament or from helping over the last month, please know we extend our gratitude here. Thank you for the love, the care, the encouragement, the prayers, laughter, sharing stories, hospital visits, the meals, cards, flowers, donations.... so so much you have all done for us and we are eternally grateful for your kind, generous hearts.
As most of you know, Wednesday March 27th, Dad went home to be with Jesus. What we want you to know is he never ever gave up. Not for one minute. He walked from his bedroom to the living room right to his chair and then back the day before he passed, that is a strength most don’t have. What a guy. In his final days he knew his time had come but he held on and fought and I think that’s because he knew what he was leaving behind. The best wife, children and grandchildren, so many memories he would miss. The most amazing siblings, nieces and nephews who supported him every day. And the sweetest most genuine friends and community. Thankfully, we know where he was heading and where he is now and we hold onto the hope that we will all be together again, one beautiful day. Until then we will miss him every single day.
So we leave you with this, from the man himself.... no matter what your journey, no matter how difficult or dark your season of life gets, fight. Fight for those who love you and for those you love. And “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up”
