Journal entry by Jan Barrett —
Our hearts are overflowing during this bittersweet time. Dad's service couldn't have been more perfect. It was held next to one of his favorite rivers - the Yellow Breeches, and we sent his kayak down it filled with notes and flowers and everyone cheered as it passed through the rapids he could expertly navigate. Suddenly a bald eagle appeared and soared above it. Dad's favorite bird. During the sharing time following the service dad's friend Bill sang "On Eagle's Wings". At one time dad had encouraged Bill to sing in the church choir. I don't think Bill had sung in a choir before, let alone a solo, but this was one of my favorite parts of the day. What would have thrilled dad the most is that many people gave their lives to Jesus at the service.
Today a group of dad's kayaking buddies went on a kayaking trip and brought his empty kayak along in memory of him. Dad loved well and was well loved.
