Bob’s Story

Site created on August 21, 2014

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.
Bob is going through quite a bit of stuff right now so we both thought this might be a good way to keep everyone up to date on his medical condition.
We love you all very much.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Michelle Ballinger

OMG, it has been over a year since we updated Bobski’s site.  Just a quick note to let you all know that he has been transitioned to Hospice.  That happened in December, 2019.  Bob decided, with the helpful advice of his oncologist, that he didn’t want anymore treatments for cancer.  They found his cancer, in 2014, first in his prostate and then Mantle Cell Lymphoma that they treated with a Clinical Trial of chemo and then a biological drug for two additional years.  Six months after the Trial was over, in July, 2017,  his cancer came back.  Because he has so many other serious medical problems like diabetes, the doc helped Bob see that his condition was too fragile to take chemo again and he is not a candidate for surgery of any kind.

Mantle Cell Lymphoma is a very insidious cancer and not much is known about it except it is not curable.

Bob is feeling pretty good right now.  He has bad days where he does not get out of bed all day.  I feel his body is just so tired of being sick.  He is always up for being funny as can be as usual.  That at least makes our days go by a bit more pleasant.

I, too, feel the love of our community when I am out and about.  People always ask how he is doing and sending well wishes. It definitely helps.

i will continue to keep you updated on our journey as we face the new year with renewed hope and peace.
