Journal entry by Jemmabella Cabral

Today, is the 1st Mother's Day that our family had without our beloved, Benita. My husband, Brent, my son, Jacob, and I traditionally have Mother's Day Brunch with Benita and my father-in-law, Howard. Last year we had brunch at The Seville in Streamwood. This venue has become a place of beautiful memories as our wedding was held there followed by Mother's Day Brunch and last week us along with 100+ guests came together to honor and remember her at her Celebration of Life event. We (Jason, Sarah, Brent, and I) decided to make her Celebration of Life a weekend affair filled with love, laughter, and memories. Family and friends from all over joined us last weekend. On Saturday a group of 20 plus people went to Wrigley Field to watch the Cardinals vs. Cubs in the bleacher seats. Jason and I had Benita's ashes with us in small containers and were able to spread her ashes undetected in the bushes next to us. Unfortunately, the ivy was bone dry and heavily guarded. However, she is now in a place that will be there forever and within the, "friendly confines." On Sunday, we all gathered together at The Seville where we celebrated her like we promised with storytelling, laughter, and a few tears. My Mother-in-law was a well loved and cared for woman who touched many lives and connected with many people. We could definitely feel her presence with us throughout the weekend. The Cubs swept the Cardinals during this series and the weather was beautiful all weekend.

We have crossed 2 of the 3 places she had asked for us to spread her ashes off her list. At this time we may be waiting till next year to head to the 3rd and final place, The Big Apple. This year has been quite the ride for all of us and we would like to take a moment to slow down and just be present with our families. Summer is around the corner. My son is graduating high school next week and the Vivian 4 are looking forward to school ending for the year and all the swimming and sports they can fit in the next couple of months.
