Journal entry by Meredith Davis

Hi everyone, this is Teresa, not Meredith. We're having a few technical difficulties.

On this one year anniversary of Blake's passing from this life into glory, I am thankful for my family and friends.  Galatians 6 talks about, "carrying each other's burdens".  This is exactly what you all did for our family this past year.  All of you bravely stepped into our journey with us.  You all did not shy away from walking with us in our pain and suffering - that's called mercy.  You all allowed some of our suffering to spill into your own lives, which helped make our burden a little lighter.  We were not alone.  Thank you.

While we have cried an ocean of tears and our hearts ache for our sweet Blake, we have been a witness to God's great love and movement in restoring our brokenness and redeeming the story.  Zach, Blake's brother has been gathering stories all year about the impact of Blake's passing.  You can read them at the site he created, blake98.com.

After the funeral, we discovered some letters and essay's Blake had written.  These are beautiful gifts left for us to discover at just the right time, a few days after the funeral. Echos of love seen in these notes, letters, essays, pictures, memories, friends and stories. The one we treasure the most is an essay he wrote while going through College Young Life training at Texas A&M.  They were asked to explain why they wanted to be a Young Life leader.  The full essay can be found on the blake98.com website, and below is our favorite part. He said...

"I have been given the greatest gift that can possibly be given.  Eternal life.  I want nothing more than to give that gift to as many people as I can during my life."  He wrote this on April 1, 2018.

Zach used these words to make Blake's portrait below.  It made us realize that we are all writing our story and the evidence of what we believe and how we live is our legacy which will be etched on all of our faces.  What do we want the words on our face to say?

Eternal life, a word left behind from Blake to inspire, encourage, to give peace, hope, joy, and thankfulness.  A word left to give meaning, direction, and purpose.  Echos of love from Blake and God. Hidden mana left for us to sustain us and to share with others. We are full of gratitude to have his thoughts on paper, and to know exactly where he stood and what was in his heart.  Blake and our loving Father want all of us to be warriors, to gather together, to serve, to share, to care to hope and to live and love big and boldly.

Our family is also thankful that Blake's life story did not end on May 19th, 2018, it started anew.  He cannot return to us but we will all be together again.

We love you all. Thank you again for being with us on this journey. Bless you, in the name of Jesus.
