Journal entry by Julie Hanson-Kleinschmit

Hello again from Minnesota!  ☃️

We are still very blessed by the excellent care that my dad is receiving from his nurses.  Kevin and Ben are here around the clock to ensure that Don is well taken care of.  We have decided that the cool 😎 room that Don is being taken care of in is called a “DONDO”- that’s a combo of Don + Condo.

Our brother, Andrew, surprised everyone yesterday by pulling into the driveway - flew all the way back from Wyoming.  Christian (Rebecca’s son) flew back to Oregon yesterday.  Rebecca’s son Alex and daughter Kaitlin will be coming in Thursday and Friday.

Rebecca’s lovely friend, Cindy, had our family dinner delivered from Joey Nova’s last night.  She lives in Kansas City.  It was amazing!  Chopped salad, baked ziti and chicken parm with fettuccini. YUM 😋 what a thoughtful gesture. Don loved it all!   XOXO 😘

We are finding ways that God is sending love and light with a little touch of humor into our lives every day.  Last night - God really decided to pull a prank.  Anyone that has been to our Birch Bluff home, knows the Don and Jan have a very long driveway.  It is difficult to navigate any time of the year - but especially hard with the snow ❄️ and ice 🧊.  We also have a lot of cars parked in the driveway that are not usually there - so the only way to get out of the driveway is to back straight back.  Andrew, Rebecca and I could back out with our eyes closed, we’ve done it so many times.  Well...last night, Kade was attempting to back out and the car slipped on the ice and slipped down the hill, getting completely stuck in the snow bank.  Rebecca and I had taken an Uber from Excelsior and the Uber driver was wearing ONLY a t-shirt, shorts and sandals 🩴.  He quickly jumped out of his car and attempted to help.  The car, unfortunately, slipped down the hill more encroaching on the next door neighbors’ driveway.  As soon as they saw the commotion, they jumped right into action with shovels and such.  Finally, they got a snowblower out.  Unfortunately, after much effort, we decided it was best to get AAA.  The tow truck arrived and they were able to get the SUV out immediately with their equipment.  The Lexus IS back tucked safely in the garage. It makes for a good story!  Gotta love the Minnesota winters ⛄️ Photo is attached for your viewing pleasure!

More updates to come...

God Bless ❤️

XOXO

Julie
