Bill’s Story

Site created on November 2, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. As you know, Bill has been a diabetic for 35 years and his kidneys are now in stage 4 renal failure. We are beginning the process towards a kidney transplant. We will update this site periodically and hope that you will help us spread the word, you never know who may wind up being a donor. We anticipate that this will be a long road but we are comforted to know that we have a supportive network of family and friends around us.  We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Sarah Stringer

Bill and I have just returned from our third visit to Ascension St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, OK. This hospital is known to be one of the best kidney transplant hospitals in the country. After meeting with our team of doctors, we are now starting our search for a live kidney donor for Bill.

The process is a huge commitment and one that is hard to ask of anyone. If you or someone you know may be interested in donating, we can tell you how. To be a donor you must be under the age of 65, not a diabetic, and in good health.  If a donor is identified to be compatible after a simple blood test, he or she would be evaluated in Tulsa for a couple of days, testing includes X-rays, CT Scans, more blood work, informative classes on the process, etc. If surgery looked to be possible, the donor would have the procedure alongside Bill in Tulsa, and kidney removal would be done laparoscopically. Bill's insurance would cover all of the testing and procedures.

Those interested in donating a kidney may call my Living Donor Transplant coordinator directly:

Jeffrey Taylor, RN at 918-744-3653

You may also get started by filling out the online self-referral by visiting:  https://livingdonor.sjmc.org to submit your contact information, and our St. John living donor coordinator will get in touch with you for a consultation.

We thank you for your consideration and would appreciate if you would please share our journey with your friends, family and social networks.
