Bill’s Story

Site created on September 1, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

After feeling bad for several days and not getting better even with 3 visits to the doctor, I was admitted to the hospital. My white  blood count was very high and I have now been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

Chemo has begun and I expect to be in the hospital for another 3 weeks. The doctors are pleased with the progress and the prognosis is positive. Round 1 of chemo ends this weekend and the next steps willl be determined  over the next couple of weeks.

I am not yet  ready for visitors  and will be slow to respond to emails and text.

I won’t be teaching this semester. The Spring semester is still uncertain.

Appreciate your positive thoughts and prayers. This will be a long journey.

Updating on behalf of Bill:

Unfortunately, the leukemia has returned. The last 3 weeks have been filled with ups and downs related to the return of the disease and the complications of pneumonia. A new chemo protocol has been established and is now underway.

Bill is hospitalized at UT Southwestern, Clements.
