Bill’s Story

Site created on February 2, 2019

**Bill is scheduled for high risk open heart surgery on April 24th that is complicated by his lung disease. We want to keep his family and friends posted on his progress through this site.  We are also seeking your prayer support for his recovery.**

In early February, Bill suffered from a restricted flow heart attack.  He received 3 successful stents, through a high risk procedure due to the placement and length of the blockage.

In April, he was experiencing minor chest discomfort, and a stress test confirmed some abnormal heart signs.  On April 12, he had a cardiac catheterization performed, which revealed that all 3 stents had become blocked with scar tissue (2 of the stents are 90-95% blocked).  It’s very rare to see this much scar tissue in such a short period of time. They immediately admitted Bill at Marin General Hospital (MGH).

The MGH cardiologists concluded that triple bypass surgery was the only solution, as restenting would likely fail again.  They also felt that it was critical that he have his surgery in a hospital that had both a strong cardiac and lung department to receive the best postoperative care.  He was transported via Critical Care Ambulance to UCSF on April 19.

Through extensive review of his case, the UCSF team agrees that triple bypass surgery is the right decision.  He is scheduled for surgery tomorrow, April 24 around noon.

Because of his current lung disease, both the surgery and postoperative recovery are considered high risk.   We thank you for your prayers and support, and look forward to having dad back home. We will continue to update this page through his recovery.

Bill has a special devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, St Padre Pio, and St John Paul II.

"Dearest Jesus, we praise you and thank you for your care and mercy thus far and for sending your angel armies to contend for Bill's complete recovery.  We thank you that Bill rests in the shadow of the most high God and declares him to be his refuge in times of trouble (Psalm 91:1-2)." "Because He loves me,' says the Lord, 'I will rescue him;  I will protect him because he honors my name. He will call on me and I will answer him; I will be with him in times of trouble, I will deliver him. With long life I will honor him." (Psalm 91:14-16).

Thanks,
Allie (Bill's Daughter)
