Journal entry by Nancy Judy —
Merry Christmas! We have so many things for which to be thankful.
Mom is in her apartment. She was released from rehab on Thursday and is settling in really well. Her release targets were the ability to walk 150 feet with a walker, to feed herself, to transfer from sitting to standing/bed to standing, and a will to push forward. She passed all in just 10 days of inpatient rehab. In fact, she's doing much more. She really wants to unload the dishwasher and fold laundry and more. So, the feisty Bev we all know is shining through.
For the next month or so, she'll have in home rehab with visits from a nurse, speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy. We've engaged Comfort Keepers to be with her each day - we'll see if that's all day or parts of the day for meals and medicine. Our coach is Jeanne Ness, who helped managed care for both of her parents for many years. So many lessons... a great one is Walgreens! The only spot to find walkers, rollators, shower chairs and supplies for this kind of stuff. I'm a fan and wanted to pass on the tip. We have many, if you ever need them.
Her eyesight and cognition are still her biggest challenges. She can't see anything on the right side of both eyes, still. We are hopeful it will come back, but she's learning to adapt a bit. She spends her days doing word search puzzles, diligently doing her therapy and looking through the hundreds of cards from all of you. You've uplifted her at every step and she knows it. Your prayers and good wishes are working. From her heart and mine, thank you. She is incredibly moved and grateful for each interaction.
We just mailed her Christmas card a few days ago. It has her new address inside. For those who want it:
Beverly Ness
24100 S. Tamiami Trail

Bonita Spring, FL 34134
The phone is still a challenge. We're working to get her a new landline so she'll have something with huge buttons. She'll keep her mobile phone, too. But know that she might not be able to use it for a while.
John arrives on Tuesday to take over for a while and enjoy the hot tub, which is always hot! If any of you want to escape the cold and enjoy beautiful Florida, let me know. She has an extra bedroom and bath. And I know, she'd enjoy the company. And we'd all appreciate another pair of eyes on her in Feb. and March.
Merry Christmas to you and your family and friends. We wish you all the joys of the season and hope you find meaning in every moment.
With love, Nancy
