Newest Update

Journal entry by Jeff Barela

Hi everyone,

We talked to the oncologist this week and the news is good again. My mom continues to surprise the doctors with how well she is doing, just amazing! There are no new tumors, all tumors are stable, and one has shrunk a bit more. The ascites fluid which contains cancer cells in her abdomen is no longer present, wow. Blood work came back as normal and she continues to feel well, look healthy, and have energy. The CA125 blood marker was the same as the last scan, 11, which is low and very good news.

Again, we asked the doc how long she thinks the Arimidex will continue working. She said that past performance does not predict future results. It may continue to work for some time or it may lose its effectiveness at some point. In any event, we will be grateful for what we've been given, that my mom is doing so well.  The doc also reiterated that since it has been so long since my mom had chemo, that if the Arimidex loses its efficacy, that chemo options are future options.

The continued area of concern is that my mom has ongoing issues with UTI’s, and the Arimidex makes her more susceptible to UTI’s.  She is going to try estrogren cream as a remedy which can hopefully ease her off the antibiotics.  Please keep her in your prayers as we hope to find a more permanent solution to the UTI issue.

The doc said to continue scans every quarter, so the next scan will be at the end of December, a little earlier than 3 months, because if all goes according to plan, my parents can once again snowbird in Arizona, how cool is that?

Thanks everyone for your continued prayers, well wishes, and support - they are working!
