Newest Update

Journal entry by Jeff Barela

Hi everyone,

It’s been a long time since an update, and the news continues to be good. Scan results came back as stable and the CA 125 blood marker was 3, the low number we like. Labs came back normal as well. We’d still like the sodium to be higher than 128, but that’s an ongoing process that we continue to work on.

We are posting this update because a) it’s been a long time since we have, and b) two months ago there was a moderate concern that was twofold. First, the February scan showed nominal growth for a few of the tumors and my Mom had let some of you know this. Secondly, she was hospitalized for a partial bowel blockage in the same timeframe. This was resolved over the course of a few days and she’s been feeling fine since.

Bowel blockage can simply occur due to past surgery but can also be indicative of disease growth. Dr. Kogel was not overly concerned that the disease had begun progressing, but enough so that we went two months between scans instead of three. Given today’s stable results, we will be back on a three-month cadence, always watching the monthly labs closely and noting if my Mom has any symptom changes, which she hasn’t, and that’s good. She continues to feel well, do things she enjoys, and have a high quality of life.

Thanks for your continued concern, prayers and support. They are helping!
