Journal entry by Beth Martinez de Andino

I think it is proven now that I'm not very good at talking about myself during this journey!  I have taken my sweet ol' time to communicate because it's not fun to put myself out there (more than I have already LOL).  I'm okay with everyone else in my life talking about it but...

Since my 2 surgeries this month (Aug. 7th and 8th) I received the email that I am now in remission. I am so blessed and want to thank everyone in my last many months who have been praying and encouraging me.  Prayers work and I love you all for coming to the call!  I will continue to be there for you too!  What lies ahead are infusions every 3 weeks through the middle of March of a drug called Herceptin as well as a pill called Tamoxifen for the next 5 years.

Gerry and I are at the store everyday and are exhausted but it's a good exhaustion.  The community has been so receptive to the new business and we've made all kinds of new friends since we've opened.  There's no time for health challenges!  Thank goodness I'm on the mend!  We've got too much going on for that kind of stuff.

Opening a store/coffee shop during all of this has been most challenging, but all our friends and family have taken hold of the situation and shared in the journey by donating money, time, energy and meals.  We truly could never have been able to pull it off had it not been for all of you who've been involved! I've treasured the time spent with each and every one of you (you know who you are) and wouldn't trade it for the world so "thank you!"

I also want to say a big "THANK YOU" to my sister for coming to NC to take care of me after my surgery.  It was great to hang out with you and has been too long since we've had that kind of quality time together...if you can call it that!  I miss you!

Gerry, Nicole and Alicia...thanks for putting up with me!  You've all had such an important role in this journey and I love you for being here for me!  Heck...I love you regardless!  I'm not always the easiest to deal with, but I try to behave.

Many gentle hugs and kisses to you all!
