It's that time to update every one on our little Peanut. Back in December, Bennett had his second appointment with Riley, here in Fort Wayne. The NP was pleased to see no changes; no changes is better than the hydronephrosis becoming worse. The plan is to keep him on a low dose of antibiotic until his first birthday to prevent urinary tract infections. They are also hoping by his first birthday the condition clears up on its own. We go back in May for a repeat ultrasound and appointment. 

Unfortunately, at this appointment they discovered he has high blood pressure. Poor guy had his blood pressure taken about 6 times (each limb was used too). Not once was it within a normal range. The NP stated they don't really monitor blood pressure in infants so we should follow up with our pediatrician..........can't high blood pressure be a symptom of kidney issues? Anyway, at his next well-check his pediatrician checked his blood pressure herself 8 times! She was hoping it was the machine, but not once was it within a normal range for such a happy baby. We left the appointment with no answers besides he is healthy, and we need to monitor him until she figures this out. 

The next day she called to share her plan. She ordered a full blood panel to see if any thing was out of range there. She was working on getting ahold of the pediatric cardiologist, and she was having her nurse scheduling a renal doppler to check the kidneys arteries. His blood panel came back normal. She was happy to report it was normal, but was sad to say she had no answer for his high blood pressure yet. 

We are currently scheduled for a renal doppler Wednesday, February 6th. The poor guy can't eat for 6 hours before and the earliest he could get in was 8:30. If you see me driving around aimlessly in my subdivision for hours that morning it's because I can't feed him, and I'm hoping the car will put him to sleep LOL. Then he is scheduled for a consult with the cardiologist Tuesday, February 5th. We aren't really sure what his plan is, but the pediatrician had mentioned either an EKG or 24 hour BP monitoring.

Right now we aren't sure what all is going on, but we know he has a wonderful pediatrician. She is being very thorough and wants to help the little guy. Hopefully, within the next 2 weeks we will have some real answers. And if it turns out to be all because of his kidneys, Riley will be getting an angry phone call from me as they should have been the ones taking charge, as we were already referred to them!
