Benjamin’s Story

Site created on July 13, 2022

On Friday, July 8th, Benjamin Cross (10 years old) was taken to the ER after routine blood work revealed some concerns. After several days of blood tests and bone marrow tests it was confirmed that Ben has acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Ben's first round of chemotherapy began on July 14th and he will be at Texas Children's Hospital in the Texas Medical Center for the next few weeks undergoing treatment. He is being taken care of by some of the best doctors at one of the largest and most comprehensive pediatric leukemia treatment clinics in the country.  Additionally, he is being prayed for by hundreds of people.  We will use this page to update you on Ben's progress and ask that you please keep him and the Cross family in your thoughts and prayers.

Not the standard Christmas card with color coordinated outfits and a stress-free perfect life representation but this selfie is certainly a bit more authentic.

On January 11, Ben reached his 100-day transplant milestone. He will have lumbar puncture and bone marrow procedure done. Trusting for positive results and continuation to full health.

The Day 100 is a milestone that many stem cell transplant recipients consider the turning point in their recovery. That’s when the greatest risk for critical side effects is past and when the stem cells have engrafted and begun making new blood cells.

Thank you to everyone who continues to keep Ben and the Cross family in your thoughts and prayers. We know that there is still a long road ahead until full remission, but for now, let us celebrate these 100 days. #strongasacross
