Ben and Sam’s Story

Site created on December 29, 2021

Every year the week after Christmas Ben, Sam, and their two friends, Brandon and Jacob share a weekend at the Wuest cabin in Northern Wisconsin with Sarah and Mike. The guys are brothers in spirit, best friends for life, and are connected on so many levels. While Ben and Sam are Sarah's biological sons, she considers Brandon Wharton and Jacob Eidem sons in heart and spirit.

On the morning of December 27th, as the boys made their way to the cabin for the annual trip, they were in head on collision with another vehicle. Brandon, Ben and Jacob were airlifted to hospitals in the Twin Cities while Sam was taken by Ambulance to the closest hospital.

Brandon passed way from injuries sustained in the crash. He is incredibly loved by all, and truly brought joy to so many others everyday. Ben is currently in the hospital with a long road to recovery with a broken femur ball joint. Sam was in the front seat with Brandon. His injuries include broken nose and ribs and bruises over most of his body. Sam has been discharged from the hospital. Jacob remains hospitalized with several broken ribs, damage to an artery and internal injuries.

As Ben and Sam both have long roads to recovery we wanted to create this page as a hub for all updates, how you can help out and more.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Kayla Wuest

I just wanted to post an update with my road to recovery and include a personal thanks for all of you who have donated to help support the cost of my medical bills. For all of you that have brought me groceries, home cooked meals and delivery gift cards, I assure you I am getting plenty fat with my limited mobility nursing this hip back to health. I am starting to work it off with physical therapy which is slow, but rewarding. I'd like to leave you with my most recent meditation in that for better or worse I frequently find myself grinding on art throughout the night to see the sunrise. I take this time to meditate on how grateful I am to be alive, to see another sunrise and how fortunate I am to have all of you and your support in my life.

Thank You.
Ben
