Journal entry by Bec Lewis

Don’t think I could have even imagined a better consult appointment as Celeste and I just had with Dr. Rosanna Yeoung, Radiation Oncologist. She is delightful, kind and so informative - you couldn’t ask for better!

On Monday at 10:30 I go in for another brain CT for the prep required for the actual “Stereotactic Radiation Surgery”  (similar in concept and treatment to Gamma Knife, but just using more modern equipment with a different source of protons) which should take around an hour and a half to complete - measurements, positioning, mask restraint creation (think of Tom Hardy’s character in the one Batman movie or his character in the Mad Max latest movie?), other geometric calculations and possible little dot tattoos......

Then it takes the doctor a week or so to do calculations, physics and line up the other team members for the actual treatment (with all their technology and people monitoring it, they can tell if I move by a fraction of a cm and adjust the laser to accommodate even the slightest repositioning!). Almost immediately they will then set the treatment date (yes, only ONE zapping), and I will be on my way to a healthy brain again! 😁

There is a better than 80% chance this one treatment to this small tumor (we so luckily caught pretty early) will either kill it outright or at a minimum stabilize it to stop growing or spreading!  I like those odds!!!  And, most likely, no major side effects or lasting issues or impairments!

Very lucky and very blessed to have listened to my body and know there was something just not right about what was going on!  Looks like the complete recovery from this issue is probable and the follow up to monitor it happening again (because invariably it will) in some other place in my brain is thorough, frequent and methodical!  Can we all say a great application of the 7 Ps?

Very happy and grateful for this outcome!  And the expected outcome in the future!

Feel free to call with questions if you like & if I’m not napping maybe we can talk?  Though napping is my favorite pastime!  😁
