Newest Update

Journal entry by Becky Stowell

Well, it has been quite some time since I have updated this site. I didn't want to spend the last two months subjecting everyone to the side effects of chemo, and, that was all that had changed. Last Wednesday I had a CT Scan and followed up with my oncologist for the results yesterday. Unfortunately, I have developed some new nodules in my lungs and liver and my main tumor showed some slight growth. So, it appears the most recent chemo regimen hasn't had much impact on the cancer. My doctor has opted to take me off chemo, for the time being, and start me on Immunotherapy. For those who aren't familiar, Immunotherapy tries to boost your immune system and get your good cells to attack and kill the cancer cells. Chemo also tries to kill cancer cells, but it also kills good cells which causes your body to become more susceptible to illness, weakness and fatigue, and, of course, all the chemicals involved cause side effects. My doctor feels my side effects are at a point that my body needs a respite from the chemo and feels the Immunotherapy will provide that while still fighting the cancer.

Although I did not get the news I was hoping for yesterday, I am still hopeful and in good spirits. The doctor didn't say, "We've reached the end of the treatment road", and, for that I am thankful. I am also looking forward to being off chemo for awhile and, hopefully, regaining some strength and stamina.

Thank you for your continued prayers and well-wishes. This has truly been a hellish year for all of us with COVID keeping us from living our normal lives. I hope we can all celebrate the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, in some way, with our friends and families and pray for a happier, healthier New Year. Sending my love and blessings to all of you
