Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Around the end of January/beginning of February Becky started having digestive issues. She couldn't eat much food and was experiencing nausea once a week. Her doctor ordered a sonogram to see if her gall bladder was okay. The gall bladder looked fine, but a suspicious mass showed in the right kidney. She soon found the digestive issues were the result of a reaction to recently prescribed diabetes medicine (and since have been resolved).  After a CT scan, the mass in the kidney appeared to be cancerous, and has grow outside the kidney into the vena cava vein (in a small section of the vein so far).  She will have surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore on Monday April 19. She was approved to be part of an immunotherapy trial, not to receive the immunotherapy drug, but to be observed with tests and scans for several years afterwards. At this point the cancer appears to be stage 3. Please pray with us (this is her husband Roger writing) that God heals her, grants her an easy recovery, and that the cancer does not return.  Thank you for the prayers and well-wishes!!

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him." - Psalm 28:7

But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him.” - Lamentations 3:21-24

It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” - Deuteronomy 31:8

Journal entry by Roger Hooper

Christmas is a time to give thanks for the blessings in life; this one for us is definitely a time to give thanks. Becky had her second scan Friday 12/17; like her first scan in July, this one was 100% clear of any cancer cells. Thank you, Lord! We are headed toward our 49th anniversary in January; grateful her surgery has been successful thus far. We’re trusting God for our future.

Isaiah 12:4-5
[4] And you will say in that day:
    “Give thanks to the LORD,
        call upon his name,
    make known his deeds among the peoples,
        proclaim that his name is exalted.
    [5] “Sing praises to the LORD, for he has done gloriously;
        let this be made known in all the earth.

Philippians 4:4-7
[4] Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. [5] Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; [6] do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. [7] And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
