Newest Update

Journal entry by Barb and Rog Thoennes

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to drop in with a little bit of an update on Mom.

Mom and the kids met with her oncologist Dr Blaes and team last Monday,  to discuss the path of best action to slow the progression of the cancer.  She has started an  anti estrogen medication and as those markers and tests come back and continue to be good , she’ll add in a targeted therapy medication in a few weeks time. That medication (Ibrance) goal is to stop the cancer cells from dividing and growing.

Mom is still in transitional care at UofM.  She has daily occupational and physical therapy to gain some strength back in the legs and targeting the therapy to work with her existing pelvis fracture and bone weakness on the right side and hopefully gaining some strength back on the left side too.  There was a care conference today with the rehab team and they’re been pretty impressed with her progress, our  hope is each day she can gain a little more and  get her back home to continue to heal and rehab there. She has another oncologist appointment  on May 24th, so we know for sure she will be in transitional care through that time. Mom has  been  blessed with a pretty great care team here and it’s made the fact she’s not home a little easier to swallow. We continue to hope more restrictions will be lifted with the Covid protocols but sadly it’s still just one of us for the duration ☹️

Mom and all the kids are grateful and thankful for all of the love, prayers and support. It’s a battle she’s fighting one day at a time and your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated. Thank you for all the cards that you’re sending to the house, we bring them down to her and they put a smile on her face! Continue to call her cell phone, if she can answer she will, if not she’ll call back when she’s able.

Thanks and love to all 😍
