Journal entry by Raechael Beyer —
Barb had surgery to remove her cancer today. During surgery it was discovered both that her celiac artery was blocked requiring stenting, and that they would indeed have to perform the more complicated whipple surgery. Barb was in surgery for 10.5 hrs preventing us from seeing her when she woke up. We were assured that the nurses would monitor her blood flow throughout the night and if need be they would do an angioplasty through her groin to clear the artery more. As it turned out the flow of blood needed to be increased in the middle of the night, and the attempt to access her groin failed. The cardiac surgeon performed a second surgery to successfully clear more of the artery.
