Journal entry by Barbara Ford Carpenter

It's been almost 11 months since my transplant!  My transplant date, and therefore my RE-Birthday, is May 16th. I get my second round of childhood immunization shots in a few weeks and within the next month or so I am looking forward to getting my life "back to normal".

With the doctors permission Mike and I we took a two week trip to Florida in late March (via Raleigh to see Kaitlyn).  It had to be on the condition that we drove as I am not yet cleared for public transportation (to many germs!).  It was so nice to be outside of my four walls!  We had a lovely time and enjoyed the sun, the beach, outdoor activities in St. Augustine such as the historic village and the Fort.  We also saw and enjoyed the company of many friends!

And, yesterday I did yard work!  I know it doesn't sound like fun but for me it was exciting since I couldn't tend to the lawn or my garden last summer.  And, it means that the snow is gone and spring is coming!

On May 1st I will return to work at the office. I am looking forward to seeing everyone and digging me feet in.

I still await to hear the word "cure", but the doctor said it's just too soon.  For now I will take the word "remission", and knowing that, although I continue to heal, I feel better and stronger every day.

I continue to count my blessings and thank God everyday! I am ever so thankful for our wonderful family, friends and my medical team for seeing us through this challenge.

Until next time!
