Newest Update

Journal entry by Robert O'Rourke

Hello all, lets go with a 4 month update. Last entry, she had the kidney removed & was at Cooper hospital recovering. She was still having difficulties with bowel movements. She had a feeding tube, then they went back to look & repaired a hernia. She was left for a few days so her body could reset & reconfigure itself. She was released to Tallwoods rehab center to undergo her remaining days of covered care (by medicare). She was released by Tallwoods to return home. VNA (visiting nurses) began a nurse (wound care), a physical therapist (strength), occupational therapist (dexterity) and speech therapist (swallowing).
The nurse came & showed aunt Alice how to clean & pack the wound properly, keeping outside open so inside healed properly before healing out.
Mommy did all she could for healing, and soon became time to have outside staples removed.
Any actual stitches would disentegrate on their own.
Internally theres a few staples that stay forever.
In June she saw optomitrist & had left cataract surgery, then 2 weeks later had right cataract surgery.
She had followup & told still some scarring & didnt clear enough for strong visibility, would undergo laser eye surgery.
This past month she saw her regular PCM & was unhappy with the visit, diminished hours.
A Social Worker was assigned with VNA and she informed mommy of many programs.
We signed her up for Mealz on Wheelz, they make a healthy dinner mon-fri for a minimal $2 day donation.
Mommy enjoys the meals, they include a main course, side item & a vegetable.
Usually with a milk, oj or apple juice, a snack item & a bread item.
She went into ER last month for bloody bowel movement.
Her Hg was way low along with many other bloodwork results and was admitted.
Tried to do colonoscopy but barely got beyond intestine.
Decided to go with endoscopy and found bout of thrush at her esophagas.
Began treatment for that and also tried colonoscopy, but unsuccessful.
Did xray & decided looked like diverticulitis flare up.
Released after few days.
She also was told of Visiting Physician Services, the Dr comes to the home every 2-3 months and a Nurse comes every 3-6 weeks unless needed earlier.
Visiting Nurse came and ordered bloodwork to begin services.
That night (mid july) was called and told go to ER, her body bloodwork was way out of whack.
She was given about 2-3 units of blood and admitted so they could monitor the transfusion.
After about a week all was seemed to be fine so she was released and VNA resumed.
A week or so later still seemed off & went back to ER.
Again, her Hg was still off with other bloodwork.
Admitted again and given 4 units this time, eventually able to complete colonoscopy looking for GI bleed.
Stopped Xaralto and low dose aspirin (until further notice).
Now shes slowly improving except for being released with a runny nose, sore throat & feeling weak.
Did COVID test sunday & showed positive.
So all services are to be resumed next week, symptoms have subsided and strength is improving...
