Barbara’s Story

Site created on February 1, 2024

Barbara passed away on Mar 7, 2024 of Retroperitoneal Sarcoma a rare form of Cancer. She was diagnosed on the 16 of January.   I created this site to chronicle the treatment (and hopefully, removal or at least remission) of the tumor. Unfortunately, by the time we discovered it, it was actually too late.  We worked with the UNC Sarcoma centre and their expert oncologists. The experience was hard on Barb, she was in a LOT of pain and discomfort.  We ultimately decided to cease treatment and move Barb into comfort care.  Barb quietly and peacefully died on 7 Mar at the UNC Hospice.

Journal entry by John Rees

One of my self assigned tasks in healing is to finish the books Barb was working on. This collection of short stories was one of them. I often inherited books from Barbs book club and I thank Barb and her book buddies for introducing me to works and authors I’d likely never had read. One of barbs opening lines was often “What are you reading?” Here is your chance to share what you are reading and hopefully enjoying .
