Barbara’s Story

Site created on November 1, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

As soon as we have more information we will post it here.

On October 13th I had a second mammogram performed and an ultrasound.  Afterwards the Doctor wanted to schedule a biopsy on three suspicious masses in my left and right breasts.  On Friday, October 19th I had three biopsies.  Monday, October 22 my doctor called with the results.  I have Invasive lobular carcinoma (right breast 10:00, and papilloma (right subareolar space). The next steps: I will need surgery to remove the tumors and I will have an MRI to determine if the cancer has spread. I see the surgeon on November 7th to consult and begin next steps.

So many of you were supportive and loving during Don's journey and successful treatment of cancer and we both appreciate everyone's love. I am optimistic that we caught the cancer early and we will have a successful prognosis.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Barbara Dawson

Hello Everyone,

I have been remiss in updating the caringbridge, sorry about the lapse.  After surgery in December I needed more time to recover than I anticipated.  I had the surgery on December 14th and came home on the 15th but I had to return to the emergency room on the 16th for a hematoma in my right breast.  They had to take me back in for surgery but all of it worked out.  They put in a drainage tube and after five days they were able to remove it.

They did extra tests on the tissues they removed from my breasts and good news!! I have stage 1 cancer with no spread and I don't need chemo.  I will be starting with radiation soon but my cancer is very curable.  I will have to take medications after radiation but all in all very good news.  Thank you everyone for your support and good thoughts.
