Hi everyone! Bryan had a minor set back last week from his follow-up appointment, he is back on track now and resting comfortably at home, but we wanted to keep everyone filled in.
On Friday, Feb 5th, Bryan had his follow-up appointment. At the appointment, he was experiencing some chest pain so the nurse practitioner sent him to the emergency room at UNC after removing his staples from his incision. After multiple tests and imaging, they concluded he had a pleural effusion (fluid around the lung) on the right side. He was admitted to the hospital and stayed the night at UNC. On Saturday morning, he had a VATS (video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery) procedure. They were able to drain the fluid and send it to the lab for testing. He returned to the floor after surgery with a chest tube in place to drain the remaining fluid.
On Sunday afternoon, they pulled the chest tube and Bryan was able to return home! Although this was a little bit of a set back, Bryan is in good spirits and ready to continue his recovery! We're very thankful to the nurse practitioner who took his chest pain very seriously and found this infection before it got any worse.
Thank you all for the continued prayers, love and support!
