Update from our eventful world!

Saturday night, Aspen decided breathing wasn’t her thing and decided to take a break from it. She aspirated on her milk and choked. We ended up calling 911 and they took us to Children’s ER. She came to pretty quickly, but the ER physician admitted us to the PICU until we could figure out what happened. 

Yesterday, they just monitored her vitals and feedings but she still hadn’t fully recovered from the episode.

Today, we got some answers. She had a swallow study and it was determined that she does need her liquids thickened so we don’t have another scary reoccurrence. 

Tonight, she is trying the newly thickened breast milk and formula every three hours to see how she does. If all goes smoothly and she starts gaining weight, we will go home with that regimen; if she still has trouble gaining weight, we will have to look at other options.
