Journal entry by Kirk Whitworth —
It all started in July, 2019. I was diagnosed with a tumor on my pancreas. My wife and I were devastated. We knew that it was cancer before we even asked about getting a biopsy. 5 days later, a biopsy was done and a bile duct stent was placed. We got the results pretty fast. It was cancer and the tumor was inside my pancreas.
Over the next month and a half, I was in constant pain from the stent. My liver, pancreas, and the beginning of my small intestine were all very inflamed. I ended up in the ER 3 times because the pain was so bad and the Dilaudid they gave me wouldn't touch it.
Finally, the day came that I was able to get my surgery done. September 18, 2019, very early in the morning, my wife and I drove to the hospital and checked in. My mother showed up right after to support us. I was very glad to have both of them with me. I was beyond scared as this was my first surgery, and I'm 40 years old.
Surgery went great. Cancer was removed in one go. We were extremely happy. Surgeon told us that I should be back to work in about 2-3 months. It's been 4 months since the surgery and I'm still seeing doctors. 5 of them. 4 of them are Specialists. I can't sleep worth a darn. And because of that, I'm exhausted all the time. I'm in pain every day from head to toe. My headaches are worse than ever. I get dizzy spells every day. I'm in the bathroom far to often. I hate taking pills and I'm talking pills at least 5 times a day.
I have no idea how long this will last, but I am getting very upset of being in bed so much.
