Ashley’s Story

Site created on August 3, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.  This site is a way for friends and family to keep updated on Ashley's condition.  She needs to focus 100% on getting better which means she is unable to answer most calls and texts at this time. (We may have to confiscate her phone)  This site is a great way to leave messages of love and support for her.  She will check it regularly when she is feeling up to it.

Ashley has been diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic adenocarcinoma with an unknown primary source at this time. As you can imagine, this has devastated everyone who loves her. Her healing journey is starting now.  Ashley's amazing husband Miguel has been by her side every step of the way.  He is her advocate and her rock.

We would first like to thank Ashley and Miguel's support group.  You are MANY and your support is overwhelming.  The love, prayers, positive messages, and material gifts are humbling and are appreciated more than you know.  A Go Fund Me Page was started a few days ago by Ashley's maid of honor, Danielle, and the results were immediate and generous beyond belief.  Dinners have been donated, chores done, and help in every way has been offered.  Ashley is truly overwhelmed by the love coming her way and this will surely help in her healing.

Miguel will be taking at least 1 month off of work to care for Ashley and their 2 young daughters, Evie and Bernie.  Ashley and Miguel are taking this one day at a time.  She knows that she has a battle in front of her.  She told me yesterday, "Dad, I'm NOT dying, I've got too much to live for".  Her doctor also told her that he was not going to TREAT her, he was going to CURE her.  Wow, this positive thinking from both sides has lifted all of our spirits.  I have always known that Ashley was sweet, kind, giving, and supportive to all.  What I have learned lately is that she is one mentally TOUGH person.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Ashley Roozen Mena

Hi all,

With so much going on in the world, I just hope you all are doing as well as you can and you know I am thinking of you and hoping for the best. Just a short update to let you know, I have another blog I am using. The google one I previously made wasn't the easiest to use from a writer or reader stand point.

So here is my new one, www.lightsoncancer.com. I chose this name as a play on words since Miguel is a lineman and I believe in seeing the light that surrounds us all always. I'll try to update there as often as I can.

My best to you all,
Ashley
