Dear Art; we met briefly in London at Alicia’s house when you were on your way to be the Rabbi in a Cruise… we had a very lovely Friday night dinner together; alongside other friends too… Shortly after your trip; you found out about the cancer… Alicia, your daughter is my family away from home; she’s like a sister for another mother. For the past 2 1/2 years; I’ve been feeling with her all your battle and praying for a miracle to happen so she could have you longer in her life. Unfortunately your time to leave us arrived on erev Shabbos…
May your memory be a blessing.
May G-d comfort you among all the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. Wishing the Levine family long life, BDE

Dear Art,
Along with so many others, I have been waiting to "hear" your news, so I am deeply grateful to read your post, and to have you still among us. I send you affectionate greetings and my very best wishes that you should be comfortable, and comforted, along with your family and all your loved ones. You are an amazing teacher - but we knew that before. Many blessings, Claire

Dearest Art, You are certainly doing it "your way" with incredible - and characteristic - courage, intelligence, integrity, insight, gratitude, and of course, wry humor. I am so grateful for the years we spent together learning and growing and sharing, and I send you my warmest bear hug and love. Your generosity in inviting us to share this journey with you is a gift that we will all cherish. May your days be as pain free and and comfortable as possible, and may the wisdom and compassion of your medical professionals and caregivers bring you all that you need.

Thank you so much, Art, for sharing this post and previous ones with us. Like many, I do not expect you to respond. I just want you to be as comfortable as possible. Your wife, Barbara, is indeed amazing. I send her hugs for added strength and support. It sounds like you have a beautiful family and they surround you with their love, from near and far. May you be uplifted by the many people whose lives you have touched throughout your life, including mine.
Much love and hugs, Barbara Singer

Dear Art and Barbara: to live the path you are currently on is unbelievably difficult and one that we have only observed in loved ones, but never had to walk down. You are always in our prayers and we are sorry we have not been there for you. Unfortunately we have been only on the receiving end of this journey, by reading your posts... often a strong reminder of how we need to live. We are so glad the girls have all been there with there families. Barbara please know if there is something we can do, please reach out. We can always be there to help. Art your strength has been amazing and as I told my mother when she was at a similar place in her life," I get it, not the life you want, while there will be a huge emptiness in many lives... this one is a battle that you aren't going to win at this point". We just pray you find some comfort, and continue to be surrounded by those most important to you. All our love Sheri and Greg

Art, your gift of your truthful wholeness of heart touches me deeply. I hope and trust that my prayers and others' prayers add to the beautiful nest of love you describe that is your family around you, and I pray that palliative care serves you well.
