Newest Update

Journal entry by Chris W

Hi everyone,

The last report was Dec.

All that time went by because, although recovery is still moving forward, it is
slow.  Some days, it seems we are not moving forward, but we are.  Walking,
upper body/hand range of motion, coordination and strength are improving,
talking is a little better, there is not much recurring pain.  It is very difficult for
Anth to push on because he seems to be doing the same exercises over and
over.  For those of you who chat with him, please remind him that he has come
a long way and he is coming closer to the finish line.

His biggest hurdles now are still the salivary glands and balance.  The salivary glands make
it difficult to talk and swallow and the balance problems prevent walking normally and
running and jumping.  Continued lack of fine motor control makes typing difficult, which
would interfere with employment in computers or data science.

His speech has improved quite a bit since I (Chris) came home in Nov.  Though I still have to have him clarify a fair amount of what he says, mom seems to be able to understand him about 95% of the time.  It is difficult to understand him over video chat though, so much appreciated to the friends who are patient and talk to him.

We are probably in the beginning of the slowest stages of his recovery. Almost all of the major problems have been dealt with and overcome, and from here on out, it is likely that progress will at times be frustratingly slow. However, progress of any kind is always good and Anth is still on track to make a full recovery, though it may be some years yet.

Thank you to everyone again, as always, for all your love and support. It is always greatly appreciated.
We are still hopeful that once the pandemic dies down some more, we may be able to have visitors

Please keep referring to the Google drive link for more videos of his progress!
