Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place, so you can stay informed about my sweet, funny adorable 11year old son. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. As most of you know Tony has always been a little bit slow walking behind everyone. Lately his walking got a little worse. We decided to see the family doctor who did x Ray's of his hips and legs. After reading the results we were told he had demineralization of his bones. He was then referred to an pediatric orthopedic specialist. Who fitted him for orthotics to help his walking and referred us to a endocrinologist and a neurologist to try and help us find the cause of his demineralization. He had an appointment with the endocrinologist on wed dec 4th at 8am. The doctor thought it was a thyroid thing but did a bunch of lab work just to be sure. I recieved a call from their office saying his hemoglobin came back quite low but they thought it wasnt correct and said we would redraw it the next day when he went in for his orthotic fitting. Then a little while later I recieved another call saying more of his labs had come back and they thought it would be best for us to bring him to childrens ER to be evaluated. We went to the ER where they redrew his labs which still showed problems. His hemoglobin was 5.8 and should be above 11 and his creatine and BUN were both elevated showing that his kidneys were not functioning properly. They then ordered and ultra sound. The results showed that Tony only has one kidney and it is not working correctly. We were then told he would need to go the university if minnesota childrens hospital to have a port placed and receive dialysis. The uofm did not have an open bed so we were brought up to the ICU at childrens and monitored.
Tony had his full 3 hour dialysis treatment today and we get to go home, he will continue to come in for dialysis 3 times a week. He will also undergo alot of testing to make sure his body is able to receive a transplant.
