Baby Anthony’s Story

Site created on March 7, 2018

Baby Anthony was born on March 5th, 2018 at 7:03 pm. He weighed in at just 1 lb. 10 oz, and measured 12.5 inches long.

His mother, Nicole, was just 25 weeks along in her pregnancy when she began to experience labor symptoms. After some time, she and her husband, Colton thought it was best to head to the hospital. Once at the hospital, it was determined that Nicole was in early labor and medications were given to stop the labor. Nicole was to remain on best rest until baby Anthony made his arrival. On the evening of March 5th, Nicole was feeling some pain once again. It was then that the medical staff decided that baby was coming, ready or not!

Although baby Anthony came out fighting, he does need some time to continue his growth. This will require extensive NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) time, being closely monitored.

With all this time in the hospital, it will prove so difficult on baby Anthony’s loving parents. This site is meant for a way for friends and family to help Nicole and Colton with medical expenses. While life continues on around them, they need to have one focus right now- Anthony’s health and growth. To donate, please click “ways to help” and donate through the gofundme set up for the family!

This site will also be a place for everyone to check back in for updates on the Helsel Family, and baby Anthony’s journey in the NICU.

Nicole, Colton, and baby Anthony need all your positive thoughts, prayers and love to surround them during this time.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Brittany Keller

Hello everyone! Sorry we have not been updating this as much but we wanted to keep you all informed on a big change. Monday Tony was transferred to St. Louis Children’s hospital. It was a very sudden event that probably was decided on in about 30 mins of me and Nicole finding out. He was transferred as a proactive measure because of his hernia. Tony’s lungs have gotten better, still not perfect, and there was a window that he was stable enough for him to travel and the drs in Springfield felt it was a window that we shouldn’t pass up. His hernia was of epic size. It was the size of a baseball easily and let’s just say on a baby his size that’s massive! Nicole and I made it up to STL around 9pm last night and got to see him around 9:30. He is doing amazing and his hernia has been reduced without surgery. He may still need surgery for it but we pray that he is out of the woods in that department. We don’t know if he will be going back to Springfield before he gets to come home or not. We thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers since Tony was born, it truly means the world to Nicole and I along with our parents as well!

Thank you!!!
