Newest Update

Journal entry by Karis Riley

Dear everyone,
We are relieved to report...that the road is clear! Biopsy results from the lymph node removed during surgery are totally cancer-free.

There have been so many unexpected good things in the sudden turn of events since late March.  Here they are:
  • only one breast had cancer, not two
  • the cancer was caught at the best possible stage
  • the cancer hadn’t spread
  • Anne’s cancer care team decided to act quickly, setting a surgery date 7 days out from diagnosis
  • The doctors were able to take Anne in quickly, despite the Covid crisis (there are many stories of critical surgeries delayed by it)
  • Milton Keynes opened a top new surgery in 2019, only 20 mins away from their front door
  • Anne was able to get good information quickly that turned the decision away from a lumpectomy and towards a mastectomy within only a few days, and everyone had peace about it
  • The operation went smoothly
  • Anne had no side-effects from the anaesthesia
  • An infection was caught early in the wound which antibiotics successfully treated
  • Friends and family have sent more flowers than even a non-asthmatic could handle, despite national lockdown
  • Big Malc has stayed well and has mastered new menus
  • Anne has been sleeping through the night
  • She is actually looking forward to committing to healthy foods
  • It has prompted her to develop new exercise routines
....taken all together, we can hardly be more thankful! The biopsy news just feels like the bow and ribbons on circumstances that seem too good to be true.

This post is likely the first of the final two updates, and we just wanted to thank you for your love, prayers, and support to the Rileys in this season. We will let you know the results from genetic-testing when there is news to share.

Love and thanks to all,
Anne and Big Malc
