Ann’s Story

Site created on March 22, 2018

On Wednesday, March 22nd, Ann was on her way to an appointment at the Mayo Clinic, to receive an injection for the back issues she had been suffering from.  While in route to the clinic she started showing signs of a stroke.  Immediately, she was taken in for an evaluation where they indeed confirmed it was a stroke.  She had a CT scan to confirm the location of the clot.  She was brought into surgery where they performed an angiogram.  Due to the weakness of her carotid arteries, they were unable to get to her brain and to the clot.  This was considered a massive stroke and she is in critical condition at Saint Mary's hospital, at Mayo. Family is with her, by her bedside and continue to help keep her comfortable.  She is unable to communicate because of the breathing tube in her throat (she had a reaction to the medicine/surgery).  We remain positive and hopeful.  She has taught us to love and pray, and so we will continue to do that for her.  She is surrounded by her family and you can see in her eyes, that gives her great peace.  The entire Dammermann family is grateful for the prayer chains, messages, and words of hope.  Please continue to lift Ann up in your prayers and we will update as we find more out about her condition.

Journal entry by Kayla Beccue

Sorry for the lack in updates, it has been a busy few months for Grandma.  She stayed at Rice Therapy Suites until the beginning of July, until she was able to bust out of there for good!  Grandma spent the rest of the summer at the cabin with the help of family, friends, and a caregiver.  It really was a beautiful summer and she stayed busy.  {Family wedding, Horse Show, visits with friends, family days at the cabin, pontoon rides, continued therapy, and Impact's 50th Celebration, just to name a few.}  Just like that summer is over, and we are already towards the end of September.  If you are in MN we sure did feel the fall temps today!  50 degree... Yikes!  With that..... Grandma has now moved back into her home in Maynard.  It's been a long six months and I know she is happy to be back "home."  She will continue her therapies in Willmar during the week.  If you are local, know that Grandma is in Maynard and loves company, even if for a cup of coffee.  Though she still struggles with communication, she is a great listener and loves to hear what is going on in your lives.

We are thankful for the continued Prayers and Support.  She wouldn't be where she is today without them.
