Newest Update

Journal entry by Annamarie Dotson

These last months have been difficult. My body doesn’t seem to want to cooperate with treatment.

This particular drug causes my platelets to decrease. They should rebound during the weeks between treatments. They haven’t been doing that. After waiting for 2 months between treatments without improvement, my doctor ordered a bone marrow biopsy. The biopsy results show that it is healthy. So the doctor decided to continue with treatments on schedule, and just infuse me with platelets if my levels dip too low.

I had 1 treatment and was supposed to have another yesterday. The treatment didn’t happen. My liver levels are off. This current chemo drug can damage the liver. So, I need to have a CT scan and an MRI. If the liver is showing damage, treatments will stop immediately. If the liver is fine, we will discuss options. I have had enough chemo that he feels that it would be fine to discontinue treatment if needed. I only have a few more to go.

I have had trouble eating and keeping in weight. We finally had the upper and lower GI procedure done. I am still waiting on the results.

Low platelets can cause nose bleeds. Mine have been pretty bad. Currently seeing an ENT for that. Also, because the body is too busy making platelets, it isn’t making other blood cells efficiently. He started infusing iron.

Pain continues to bother me. Some days it is more intense than others.

I thought that I had a detached retina a few weeks ago. Saw the doctor and it is just more floaters. I will have a follow up visit soon.

I have been discharged from occupational therapy and I am now having physical therapy. After not being able to do anything, including walking, my body is weak and I lose my balance easily. They have me walking with a cane and completing exercises.

I have to get some work done on my teeth before I can start another medicine. The co-pays are expensive.

I continue to have the ride service. They are very limited in their services, but I am thankful for what they can do. For other rides, I still rely on friends and family. I am still not used to being so dependent.

I want to thank all of you for your love, thoughts and prayers.
