Angie’s Story

Site created on April 2, 2021

We created this page to share with all of you what has been going on the last few weeks! Mama (Angie) was diagnosed with Stage 1B Pancreatic Cancer. It has been a whirlwind of changes in more ways than one the last 3 weeks, but to say we have been blessed would be a understatement. The amount of love and support from so many of you has carried us through and gotten mama where she is today!

I hope this site will help provide updates to everyone and help us take on this journey together. You are all welcome to share any words of encouragement and well wishes on this site, I know it will cheer mama up and give her the strength to keep fighting!! Updates will be posted under the journals tab 😊

Journal entry by Abby Smith

After a long 4 weeks away from home we finally made it back to Georgia!!! Since August 23rd mama has taken 84 chemo pills and crossing each day of radiation off the calendar from day 1 to day 15. She has handled everything that has been thrown her way with such strength and grace; she is a true testament of a warrior and soon to be whipple warrior after surgery! Her team at Mayo have been so pleased with her progress, and are eager for her return in October.

Although we were borderline stir crazy in our apartment there I am so thankful for the treatment she received and the time I was able to spend with mama. Over the next few weeks the radiation will continue to work and kill the cancer cells and eventually inflammation will decrease. Her counts and immune system will also return close to normal in prep for surgery and a speedy recovery! They did inform us that after her surgery she will need to return one month post op for repeat scans and follow up. From then on out she will go to Mayo for repeat scans every 3 months for the next year to year and a half. The best any way to ensure a good prognosis with this cancer is close monitoring and I’m glad the brains behind it all will be some of the best!! Your words of encouragement have gone such a long way and I couldn’t be more proud to have the BEST mama there is ❤️
