Angela’s Story

Site created on June 23, 2018

Angela suffered a major stroke right before being put under anesthesia for a blood clot removal procedure. Due to the timing of the stroke, and her already having been put under the anesthesia, the doctors were not able to tell until almost 5 hours later.  The decision was made by the family to go ahead with a decompressive craniectomy procedure to remove part of Angela’s skull so that her brain has room to swell, and has upped her chances of survival. She is being kept slightly sedated in order for her brain to be able to heal, currently.

The following message was sent to us from Lorelei, our liaison from Carolina Donor Services this morning.

“Mrs. Angela saved 5 lives today with her kidneys (2 recipients), liver, lungs, and her loving heart. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know you were so proud of your mom before, and she's an amazing, life-saving hero now.”

We are so proud of mom and we are overjoyed that so many people could be helped through her selflessness even in her death. We will never fully  know what impact her donations will have but we are so happy that other families can experience joy and make memories they wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to make.
